The Special Adviser works closely with the Head of Internal Audit and Quality Support to conduct internal audits of all aspects of NRC’s activities, and to provide strategic advice to senior managers on risk management and internal control systems. The internal audit function reports directly to the Board and Secretary-General of NRC, and this post therefore requires significant experience of managing humanitarian operations and excellent analytical and communication skills.
Job description
- Contribute to and implement the Internal Audit strategy and plan of action in line with NRC’s overall strategic direction
- Facilitate self assessments of all NRC units (HO Departments, Representational, Regional and Country Offices)
- Develop relevant tools and methodologies for audit, investigation and risk management
- Conduct internal audits of NRC units as required in accordance with defined standards and methodologies
- Contribute to development of reports and recommendations to the Board, SG and relevant Managers
- Help to develop the Internal Audit function in NRC
- Ensure good exchange of information and regular communication with relevant head office staff
- Provide advice to all NRC units on issues relevant to Internal Audit, including risk management and control mechanisms
Qualifications
- Senior management experience from complex organisations with international exposure
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within the humanitarian field
- Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is essential; fluency in French is desirable
- Detailed knowledge and experience of programming issues and support systems in large humanitarian agencies
- Detailed knowledge of audit and/or control mechanisms and risk management in the humanitarian sector
- Excellent analytical skills and good judgement
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- High ethical standards and strong commitment to objectivity and independence

We offer
- Contract period: Permanent
- Travel: 30 – 40% [post involves regular travel to conduct 5-6 audit visits per year]
