About Responding to Conflict (RTC)
Responding to Conflict is a small and dynamic NGO that works to transform violence and build peace. Founded in 1991 we have worked with 1000’s of people from over 70 countries and in some of the world’s most violent conflicts. We provide support and training for people in conflict situations so that they are able to develop the skills they need to build peace in their own communities.
About the role:
RTC is offering an exciting opportunity for a talented intern to gain valuable experience working with a leading UK peacebuilding organisation whilst developing valuable skills in Fundraising, Supporter Relations and Events Coordination.
Working with RTC’s small Fundraising team you will have a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with funders and supporters and engaging their support. This role is not just about filing or stuffing envelopes; we want someone who will bring energy, enthusiasm and initiative to our team and get stuck in. You will be involved in everything from brainstorming fundraising initiatives and developing a major donor strategy to organizing events and making applications.
Key responsibilities will include:
Fundraising Coordination
- To assist in the delivery of challenge event fundraising, supporter care and contact with challenge participants
- Working with Fundraising team to develop a major donor fundraising strategy
- Conducting prospect research on individuals and organisations (e.g. major donors and charitable trusts)
- Working with the Fundraising team to identify possible funding sources, research their priorities and apply for relevant funding through written applications
- Building new and developing existing donor relations through email and telephone enquiries, writing letters and drafting funding reports
- Drafting copy for the RTC website
- Interviewing people for case studies
- Organising mailings and maintaining the contact database
Other duties:
Some general administration duties such as answering the phone, responding to enquiries and
welcoming visitors.

- An interest in peacebuilding and enthusiasm for the work of RTC
- Excellent Internet research skills
Additional desirable experience
- Experience in a fundraising role or of raising funds for charitable purposes
- Experience of producing effective communications materials e.g. newsletters
- Experience of communicating messages to a range of audiences
- Experience of organizing events

The internship is 3 days a week from 9.30am – 5pm, for a period of six months including a one month probationary period. It will be based at our office in south-west Birmingham. The role is unpaid but local travel in Birmingham and a lunch allowance is provided (max. £8 per day).
Please note that we are unable to meet relocation expenses.
The closing date for this post is the 8th of September 2014. Interviews will be held on the 11th of September, with a start date estimated for the week beginning 29th September.
