Fair Trials International is a dynamic human rights charity which campaigns for the better protection of fair trial rights according to internationally recognised standards of justice. Our vision is a world where every person’s right to a fair trial is respected. Over the past five years, Fair Trials has grown considerably and developed an effective and respected law reform function, influencing law and policy (particularly at the EU level) on fair trial rights and cross-border judicial cooperation. Our law reform activities are informed by consultations with our EU-wide network of criminal justice and human rights networks – the Legal Experts Advisory Panel.
The post of Law Reform Officer is full time on a maternity cover basis (expected duration is January to October 2015). You will be mainly based in Fair Trials’ office in central London (with some overseas travel) and will work with other members of Fair Trials’ team based in both London and Brussels. You will be involved in the full range of Fair Trials’ law reform and networking activities and, in particular, you will be responsible for coordinating our pan-EU research project on the use of pre-trial detention in criminal proceedings.
This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with a track record in law reform to take on a varied and challenging role. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the work of Fair Trials International and in improving protection for the fundamental human right to a fair trial.
