Fair Trials International works for fair trials according to internationally recognised standards of justice and defends the rights of those facing charges in a country other than their own.

FTI's work comprises casework, research, training and capacity-building, lobbying and campaigning. FTI does not charge for its advice and support. Our work is funded by grants from the EU, from UK Trusts and by donations from individuals and businesses. FTI's work is strongly rooted in its individual cases. Each year we assist hundreds of people facing trial in a country other than their own.

HOURS: Full time - 35 hours per week Minimum of three months. Start date on 5th January 2015.

FTI is seeking a Legal Casework Intern to:-

• To contribute to FTI's mission to work for fair trials based on international standards of justice
• To support the casework team in managing all the initial requests for assistance from the public
• To conduct ad hoc legal research and to contribute more generally to both the casework and policy teams, where extra help in needed

  • Your educational history, including universities/colleges attended with dates and significant qualifications obtained.
  • Your employment history, including all significant posts you have held – with dates, the names of the employers, and a description of the main duties, together with your present or most recent salary, and your contractual notice period. (You should also explain any significant gaps, e.g. covered by travelling, self-employment etc).

Your cover letter should address the following:

  • Where you saw this job advertised?
  • How long would you be available for this internship?
  • Why do you think that you are suitable for this role and have the skills to perform it well?
  • Why are you interested in criminal law and fair trial rights?
  • Do you have some experience in handling a caseload and meeting strict deadlines?
  • How comfortable are you communicating (in writing and orally) with people from all walks of life (ranging from lawyers to clients and their family)?
