Primary tasks of intern
To assist the Inclusion Specialist with research requirements on inclusion in programmes and in the workplace, follow-up on pilot programmes, review of programme guidance, knowledge management and the provision of administrative support where necessary for training, flights and contracting consultants.
Specific tasks and responsibilities
Programme Support on Disability Inclusion
- Research tools and models for social inclusion analysis.
- Support the roll-out, documentation and analysis of learning and results of Plan’s International’s learning pilots on inclusion.
- Support follow-up required by Plan International and Plan Ireland as part of the Disability Inclusion Core Working Group.
- Review funding proposals submitted to various donors on disability, with a particular focus on the standards of ‘Tackling Exclusion and Gender Equality’ that form part of Plan’s Child Centred Community Development (CCCD) approach.
- Review strategic and operational guidance on inclusion for staff before circulation.
- Prepare briefing notes and papers as required.
Research & Knowledge Management
- Conduct a comprehensive mapping of Plan’s programmes on inclusion of excluded people and groups.
- Collate information on best practices on inclusion and diversity in the workplace from within Plan and from external organisations.
- Conduct research on inclusion for policy and advocacy material – position papers, press releases, blogs, factsheets and correspondence.
- Set up a roster of suitable resources/consultants for proposal development.
- Ensure that resources, documentation and learning is stored and shared within the organization, particularly on two network sites of Plan’s staff intranet – the ‘Tackling Exclusion’ site and the ‘Disability Inclusion’ site.
- Maintain all documentation (policy and training resources, resources, draft documents, meeting agendas/minutes etc) and relevant communication (electronic and hard copies) on inclusion highly organised and up to date.
Administration
- Support the Inclusion Specialist with quotations for flights, visas and travel arrangements.
- Provide administrative support for attending meetings and conferences.
- Follow-up with regional and country offices on travel itineraries and field visit Terms of Reference.
- Ensure Plan Ireland administrative criteria are met (flights logs, insurance forms etc).
- Prepare electronic and hard copies of materials for field visits, meetings and workshops as necessary.
- Perform other administrative tasks as required.
Person Profile
- Degree in social sciences or international development / international relations.
- Understanding of the practicalities of NGO programme work, and preferably of social inclusion.
- Knowledge as a result of study, training and preferably practical experience, of supporting inclusive programmes.
- Excellent knowledge of project cycle management, particularly the initial conceptual stages including logical framework development.
- Ability to summarise technical issues in simple, accessible language.
- Excellent English and 1 other language (preferable French or Spanish).
- Excellent writing, research and analytical skills.
- Excellent people skills.
- High level of computer proficiency including the use of internet, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Highly organised and efficient time manager.
- Proactive individual willing to be creative and take initiative.
