Fondation Hirondelle is recruiting for the following post: Editor in Chief, JusticeInfo.Net

The Editor in Chief's main duty is to coordinate and implement all the production elements that are necessary to achieve JusticeInfo.Net’s objectives. He/she guarantees the editorial quality of JusticeInfo.Net.

The Editor in Chief:

  • Oversees the overall JusticeInfo.Net content on the website and social media;
  • Successfully manages the JusticeInfo.Net human and financial resources;
  • Guarantees that the project’s multimedia products are in line with Fondation Hirondelle norms;
  • Represents JusticeInfo.Net with partners and concerned actors.

He/she shows and exerts authority corresponding to these functions. In practice, he/she anticipates, plans and decides on the work of the production team, identifies problems, suggests solutions, and facilitates the circulation of information in a complete and transparent manner.

He/she defends the professional and ethical values of Fondation Hirondelle in terms of online multimedia production and will support the production staff in charge of these productions in their professionalization and in ensuring they gain new skills. His/her mission is carried out within the scope of the Fondation Hirondelle’s statutory, ethical, strategic and regulatory framework.

He/she works in close coordination with the chief of project, the program manager and the English and French-language editors based on an action plan that clearly sets out the respective duties and within the editorial guidelines defined by the Fondation Hirondelle editorial Specialist. The Editor in Chief, the chief of project and the program manager are jointly responsible for the completion of the project’s objectives.

Qualifications:

You have extensive professional experience in managing newsrooms. You have overseen a news website or a newsroom and have managed a team before. You have training experience, and ideally have organized and led trainings in multimedia production. You have a deep knowledge of human rights issues. You have strong communications skills, both orally and written in English and French. Past experience in a crisis or postconflict zone is an advantage.

JusticeInfo.Net is an electronic media and information platform offering multimedia real time coverage of transitional justice, reporting news, uncovering facts, delving into background, and providing context, analysis and different perspectives and points of view. This platform will be a resource for people in affected societies, journalists, policy makers, and academics, reacting and interacting with justice initiatives related to international crimes, from the local to the international levels. In addition, JusticeInfo.Net will be an aid for teaching, providing interactive timelines, a transitional justice lexicon, biographies, and backgrounders.

Fondation Hirondelle is a Swiss non-governmental organization of journalists and humanitarian aid professionals. Since 1995, it has been creating or supporting independent, civic-minded news media in conflict, post-conflict and crisis zones.
