BACKGROUND
Syria is facing the largest humanitarian crisis of the 21st century with hostilities on-going, the number of refugees in the neighboring countries approaching two million and estimated at least 4 million in need of humanitarian assistance inside the country. At present, NRC programs provide support and protection to Syrian IDPs in Ar Raqqa, Deir Ez-Zur and Aleppo Governorates in the sectors of Education, Camp Management and Shelter/WASH.
The NRC Programme
The current programme provides its services through both direct implementation and partnership with local Civil Councils Relief Committees and Local NGO’s. The geographic spread of this programme is Northern Syrian Governorates. There may be a possibility to work in Turkey based upon funding and registration.
Job description
Generic Responsibilities
- Development and implementation of the NRC Security Management System at national level
- Conduct Security Risk Analysis (SRA) according to minimum operational requirements (MOSS)
- Minimize security risks to the operations of NRC
- Management of security staff at country office
- Support, training, control and development of security staff in all offices
- Prepare reports as required
- Communicate and cooperate with relevant external security actors
- Train and develop staff in safety and security
Specific Responsibilities
- Work closely in conjunction with the PAA, Access Coordinator, regional security team, and regional country teams to inform programmatic strategy with regards to the Syria response and implementation
- Facilitate information management and dissemination amongst the Syria response
- Provide quantitative and qualitative data to programme and support staff
- Liaise with other research, analysis, and security professionals insofar as is necessary to support programmatic aims
- Support SA’s contribution to security department’s recommendations on posturing and operations
- Regular reporting to Regional SA in Amman and provision of qualitative and quantitative inputs and ad-hoc assigned tasks
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience from working as a senior Security Advisor in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
- Valid driver’s license
