By working with local youth organisations, our partner is working with people who are committed to the personal and social development of the poorest, most disadvantaged young people. They know first-hand what life is like for young people who face a life of poverty or violence and lack even the most basic essentials – and what they need to build positive futures.
Main Responsibilities
- Programme / project budgeting
- Monthly reconciliation of accounts
- Financial reporting to donors
- Provide financial management support to colleagues
- Maintain financial management procedures and guidelines
Key Tasks
Budgeting and Accounting:
- Work closely with colleagues in the International Programmes Department (IPD) and with local partners around the world to develop, monitor and analyse programme budgets
- Record all project income and expenditure
- Work closely with partner’s Finance team for proper reconciliation of project accounts
- Work with IPD and other staff to prepare the annual budget and reforecast for IPD
Financial Management:
- Ensure that adequate financial management controls are maintained for all projects
- Work closely with colleagues in IPD to prepare cashflow forecasts, actuals and accruals.
- Provide support to partner’s Finance team in the preparation of monthly management accounts
Reporting:
- Analyse programme financial reports from partners in collaboration with regional teams in accordance with donor contractual requirements
Capacity Building and in-country monitoring
- Provide technical training for staff from local partners in financial management
- Conduct regular financial monitoring visits overseas to assess the financial management capability of partners
- Produce a range of training materials for local partners and staff to assist in the management of project budgets
Other:
- Perform all other duties relevant to the post
Internal Relations:
- Reports to – Director, International Programmes
- Work closely with and support regional programme staff and other colleagues in IPD
- Work closely with partner’s Finance team
- Liaise with and provide information to other departments at partners as necessary
Environment:
- The position is self-servicing and currently based at the International’s office in central London.
- Out of hours' work may be required
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Part qualified accountant (or equivalent through experience gained in similar role)
- Experience of directly managing the finances of projects funded by institutional donors such as DFID and the European Commission
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Good financial management skills to prepare budgets for funding applications, analyse financial information, advise on budget variations etc.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyse, interpret and explain complex financial information to others clearly in verbal and written form, including from a long distance.
- Computer literacy skills with high-level competency in Excel; medium level PowerPoint/Word
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people from a broad range of background, culture and influence, coupled with good training and facilitation skills.
- Good team player with self-motivation and an appetite to succeed coupled with the willingness and readiness to support colleagues.
- Sensitivity, sound judgement and pragmatism to deal effectively with delicate and important situations.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines in meeting departmental and organisational targets, as well as targets related to donors
Desirable Requirements
- Ability to work in Spanish and/or French
