Spain: Partnership Manager

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill a local consultant position of Partnership Manager based in our Liaison Office in Madrid, Spain. The contract will be for an initial period of 6 months.

The ideal candidate should have a track record of experience in strategy formation, marketing and fundraising in the private sector of Spain for a humanitarian cause.

The Partnership Manager will report directly to the Head of WFP Office in Madrid, with the technical supervision of the Head of Private Partnerships Europe, and be responsible for the following key duties:

  • Support the Head of WFP Office in Madrid in meeting donation targets by identifying new prospective donors and developing long-range plans for their involvement with WFP;
  • Support the negotiation of contributions and partnership agreements;
  • Raise resources from the Private Sector (corporations, individuals, foundations, NGOs), solicit contributions, provide on-going donor stewardship, evaluate and assess partnership results;
  • Prospect research; identify, analyse and use data to identify private sector entities that can help achieve WFP’s strategic objectives;
  • Develop initial and on-going pitches and fact sheets to support fundraising work;
  • Manage selected private sector partnerships born in Spain and initiatives including cause-related marketing campaigns and emergency appeals;
  • Identify opportunities to participate in high level private sector events and key industry conferences and assessing benefits of WFP’s participation;
  • Promote selected fundraising efforts and initiatives including cause-related marketing campaigns, emergency appeals and integrated giving campaigns in the Spain Region, combining marketing and communication elements of campaigns;
  • Develop and implement cause-related marketing and transactional giving campaigns;
  • Maintaining relationships with private sector donors in a variety of activities such as organizing steering committees and meetings, drafting articles for partners’ annual reports, managing new donors and one-time donations, drafting briefs for high-level meetings between WFP Executive staff and private sector representatives;
  • Support the Head of Office in positioning WFP as implementing partner in public financial tools such as debt swap between Spain and recipient countries, and in identifying Government PPP/foundations;
  • Liaise with WFP business units and field offices in Latin America and the Caribbean, West and Central Africa and South East Asia in order to draft pitches in support of WFP’s projects;
  • Provide private sector partnership updates for WFP publications and website as needed;
  • Update the Private Sector Strategy in Spain (2013-2015);
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Education:

  • University degree, preferably at the advanced level, in International Development, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Fundraising or other related fields.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in fundraising activities in an international corporation, a not-for-profit organization or marketing/fundraising consultancy firm;
  • Proven track record in sales and marketing;
  • Experience in capacity building partnerships and account management is an advantage.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent sales, marketing and communications techniques such as to approach partnerships and fundraising in a creative and entrepreneurial manner;
  • Solid knowledge of the development and implementation of cause related marketing and transactional giving campaigns;
  • General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration is an asset.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and problem solving skills;
  • Strong organization and planning ability;
  • Ability to think and plan strategically;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as to organize, assess and coordinate the work of others;
  • Ability to work harmoniously with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Language:

  • Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish.
