Aflatoun is a worldwide network with a secretariat headquartered in Amsterdam. It employs the social franchise model whereby partners have ownership of the programme. The secretariat develops curricula in collaboration with its partners and provides them with technical assistance, network support, advocacy and training materials to implement the Aflatoun methodology.

Through Aflatoun programmes children are inspired to discover their talents and put them to use, to stand up for their rights and those of their communities, to play games and to solve problems. They learn how to save, how to budget and how to set up social and financial enterprises that benefit themselves, their families and their neighborhoods. To date, more than two million children and youth are participating yearly in the Aflatoun programs in over one hundred countries. Nearly one third of these young people are now saving or have started an enterprise. But Aflatoun wants to reach millions more. This is why we are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Marketing and Communications Manager to join us in our mission.

The Marketing and Communication Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of the organization’s marketing and communication strategy, will support the management and other team members regarding marketing as well as internal and external communication, and will be responsible for profiling the organization and its activities through the media to strengthen the organization’s brand. He/she will report directly to the Director Advocacy, Fundraising and Communications (AFC).

Key Responsibilities:

· Follows developments in the field of marketing and communications, and advises and supports the Director AFC with regard to the strategy.

· Develops marketing and communication strategy in close coordination with the Director AFC, translates the strategy into a work plan including budget and concrete activities.

· Develops and implements activities in the field of marketing and communications and evaluates the implementation and makes suggestions for improvement.

· Is responsible for generating free publicity.

· Advises the management and staff solicited and unsolicited towards improving implementation of marketing activities and internal and external communications through all possible (digital) channels.

· Monitors and analyzes trends in the market, and translates this into advice for management.

· Sets (project) communication and marketing plans, conducts and evaluates them.

· Compiles and edits annual reports and other external documents.

· Performs the final editing of the website of the organization and other online communications.

· Is responsible for establishing procedures and protocols around communication and social media.

· Monitors and designs the corporate identity of the organization.

· Organizes internal and external events, both logistics and reporting.

· Maintains contact with external suppliers (designers, printers, etc.) and provides assignments according to guidelines and agreements.

· Maintains a wide network with strategic and / or influential contacts in the media, and acquires opportunities for publicity through lobbying activities, prepares press releases

Required Skills & Qualifications:

· Degree in marketing and communications.

· 5 to 7 years of experience in the non-profit sector, preferably complemented with working experience in the field of children and youth education & development.

· Extensive experience in marketing and communications.

· Knowledge of media communication, methodologies and processes.

· Knowledge of and experience with journalistic techniques; sense of text, language and image.

· Knowledge and understanding of the target groups of the organization.

· Excellent communication and social skills and the ability to learn quickly on the job.

· Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities and work in a team characterised by diverse cultural backgrounds.

· Self-driven with a high sense of creativity, quality, accuracy, efficiency and meeting tight deadlines.

· Ability and willingness to travel internationally.

We are looking for a native or near-native English speaker with excellent knowledge of Dutch. Knowledge of additional languages such as French, Arabic, Spanish, German or Russian is an advantage. Having worked for at least 5 years in the Netherlands and understanding the Dutch market is imperative.

Conditions of Employment:

The position is for a fulltime work week (40 hours). We offer a dynamic and pleasant multicultural working environment, with an indicative gross yearly salary range of €32,260 - €42,091 (inclusive of pension, health insurance, holiday allowance and national insurance contributions) - the salary level awarded will depend on relevant work experience and educational background. The contract will be offered for one year initially and maybe extended for further period.
