THE POSITION

For duties performed in the External Relations Department, the Associate Communications Officer will work under the supervision of the Director – External Relations. The incumbent will be asked to perform the following duties:

· Assist in the development and implementation of communication strategies for institutional and program-related activities;

· Conduct research into IDLO’s audiences and networks, draft stakeholder audits and develop and maintain comprehensive stakeholder contact lists;

· Maintain IDLO’s forward planning calendar and seek input from all IDLO teams regarding their activities;

· Formulate compelling project narratives for internal and external use and work with program teams to identify project objectives and results;

· Produce drafts of written communications materials, such as factsheets, mail-outs, web stories, press releases, concept notes, briefings and other materials for internal and external use;

· Undertake media outreach through identifying journalists potentially interested in covering IDLO stories, building and maintaining media lists and pitching media stories;

· Support the planning, organization and implementation of events and report launches, as well as the report editorial and design process;

· Research and develop content for high-quality written documents for internal and external communication;

· Monitor news outlets and collect and distribute relevant news clippings for internal purposes;

· Support the production the Justice Daily Digest;

· Organize meetings, capture action points and ensure follow-up of cross-departmental activities;

· Provide cover for other team members, as needed;

· Perform any other similar duties as requested by the supervisor.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education

· Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, social sciences or related field required; Graduate degree is an advantage.

Work experience

· Minimum 1-2 years of professional experience in communications, external relations or PR is essential, preferably within international settings (UN, IGO, INGO).

Languages

· Proven competence in the fluent use of written and verbal communication skills in English.

· Fluency in at least one of the other languages - Italian, Dutch, French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian, is desirable.

Technical competencies

· Excellent writing, research, organization and interpersonal skills.

· Strong attention to detail.

· The ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks under time constraints.

· Computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel), knowledge of design software desirable but not essential.

· Familiarity with a range of social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Storify, YouTube, etc.

Behavioural competencies

· Good team player, positive and proactive attitude, flexible mind, comfortable in working in multi-cultural settings;

· Openness to change and ability to work in transitional and complex organizational situations;

· Keen sense of ethics, integrity and commitment to IDLO's mandate.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The annual salary level for this fixed-term professional staff, internationally recruited, position is in

the range of €32,000 as per IDLO’s salary scale and according to qualifications and experience, plus other admissible allowances such as education, housing, relocation and home leave.

The compensation is net of tax. IDLO offers competitive remuneration and benefit package: subsidized health insurance coverage including life insurance, medical and dental through Vanbreda International to the staff member and all eligible dependents. Eligible staff member is also entitled to IDLO Provident Fund where IDLO contributes 14% of the staff member’s base salary.
