Switzerland: Statistics, Surveys and Assessments Support Intern

Under the direct supervision of the Global Coordinator, Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) Cluster, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Information Management Officer in the cleaning, refinement and analysis of databases as part of the CCCM’s information management tool, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM. In particular he/she will:

  1. Develop new or revise current survey and assessment forms, queries and reports as required.
  2. Supporting the collation and analysis of data on emergency displacement needs and assistance being provided in a timely and efficient manner.
  3. Provide technical support to IOM HQ and field missions in the development, implementation and evaluation of DTM data and other information management activities.
  4. Assist in the coordination of internal and external DTM capacity-building initiatives.
  5. Prepare draft technical reports, statistical analyses, information bulletins and other relevant information related to displacement-affected populations.
  6. Support technical aspects of CCCM’s key activities (including design, software, etc.) such as the CCCM and Clusters Materials, Rapid Response Roster Database, etc.
  7. Supporting coordination with other sector working group information managers to ensure complementarity and cross-sectoral analysis of information on the disaster response.
  8. Represent CCCM team at inter-agency meetings concerned with information management, displacement monitoring, and analysis of information gaps in DTM databases.
  9. Research, analyze and evaluate new applications related to information systems, to new technologies and processes to manage information in response to disasters and/or complex emergencies and make recommendations for their utilization.
  10. Assist the information management officer in data entry, database use and troubleshooting.
  11. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Desirable qualifications:

  • University degree in Statistics, or, alternatively, an equivalent combination of related education and professional experience. Excellent knowledge of statistics, survey and assessment methodologies.
  • Proficiency in using two or more of the following tools: Access, Visual Basic, Java, ASP, SQL or Oracle. Proficiency in one or more statistical analysis software such as: Stata, SAS, SPSS, R. Of particular value is experience in the development, refinement and implementation of population database systems (such as registrations, census or surveys).
  • Excellent communication skills, efficiency and flexibility. Ability to work under pressure. Attention to detail and quality and capacity to meet deadlines. Strong analytical skills and creative thinking. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in English required and knowledge of French desirable.
