United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Senior Campaigner, Governments & Corruption

Organization: Global Witness
Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Closing date: 15 Sep 2014

Global Witness exposes the exploitation of natural resources and international trade systems, to drive campaigns that end corruption, impunity and resource-linked conflict and human rights abuses. We undertake detailed, ground-breaking investigations and use our findings to create global momentum for change.

Our work has been a driving force behind global resource-governance initiatives, including Publish What You Pay, the EITI and the Kimberley Process. More recently, we have campaigned on Section 1504 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and similar laws in the EU and Norway to boost financial transparency in the extractives sector. This year, we were awarded the TED prize in recognition of our ground-breaking work to end anonymous company ownership.

Within our Corruption Strand, we have ongoing campaigns focused on international aid and corruption, extractives transparency, anti-money laundering and beneficial ownership transparency; and we work on the G8, G20, the UN post-2015 framework and UNCAC to progress the international anticorruption agenda.

We are seeking a Senior Campaigner to join this dynamic team. You will develop an exciting new area of work focused on curbing the ability of corrupt individuals to travel freely overseas and store their assets overseas. This will involve undertaking investigative research, as well as high level advocacy aimed at decision-makers in governments, international organisations and the private sector.

Specifically, you will lead a major ongoing investigation to highlight the role our property market in fuelling corruption at home and overseas, build a new advocacy campaign in the US and at the G20 level to promote targeted sanctions against the corrupt and work with a UK coalition to campaign on HMG’s anti-corruption plan.

You will need:

  • Experience developing campaign strategy
  • Investigative and research experience
  • Strong communication skills – experience of writing reports, media releases, policy papers
  • Advocacy skills – experience of successful advocacy campaigns, ideally at national and international level
  • Media experience*
