ODI (www.odi.org.uk) aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.

The Research and Policy in Development (RAPID) programme at ODI works to understand the relationship between knowledge, policy and practice in developing and developed countries. We work with researchers, think tanks, civil society organisations, developing country governments and donors. RAPID’s aim is to improve the integration and use of research-based evidence and local knowledge by policy-makers and practitioners for development impact.

We are looking for a creative individual to enhance RAPID’s research, advisory and capacity development work. You will work closely with RAPID colleagues to produce a range of high quality and innovative programme outputs – digital, print and multimedia; coordinate events; and implement the programme’s external and internal communications strategy.

The role will include providing communications support to several of RAPID’s key projects including VakaYiko, Better Evaluation and the DFID-ESRC Growth Research Programme (DEGRP). There is also scope to provide training and advice on communications to partners and other organisations in country and remotely if required.

About you

You will have:

  • Demonstrated practical experience in a communications role, preferably in development or a related sector.
  • A degree, preferably in communications, a social science, in development or a subject related to the work of RAPID.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to summarise and repackage research information in clear, non-specialist language; practical experience in editing blogs.
  • Practical experience managing websites and social media channels, and organising events.

· Practical skills in one or more of these areas:

  • Creating audio-visual content
  • Video filming and/or editing
  • Developing infographics
  • Experience working in cross-cultural teams and for audiences from diverse backgrounds.
