Background:
Democracy Reporting International is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. Democracy Reporting International promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions world-wide.
Democracy Reporting International is currently recruiting a full-time finance assistant for its headquarters in Berlin. In collaboration with the finance officers, and under the overall supervision of, the Head of Finance and Administration s/he will provide finance and budgeting support to the Programme Unit in order to ensure that projects and programmes are implemented in accordance with contractual obligations by funding partners, other legal requirements and in compliance with DRI’s policy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the Programme Unit in monitoring of expenditure against donor contracts, including the preparation of internal financial reports;
- Check accuracy and completeness of monthly financial reports from DRI’s field offices along with supporting documents and ensure compliance with donor regulations and German bookkeeping;
- Assist with the preparation of request for payments, financial reports and audits for submission to the funding partner’s;
- Provide reporting and financial management advice to Programme Officers, Programme Director and Finance Officers in DRI’s field offices;
- Proactively identify areas of potential financial risk and propose solutions;
- Technically assist with budget preparation to support the Programme Unit;
- Maintain a proper filing system of the field related financial data;
- Other relevant duties, as required.
Qualifications required:
- Bachelor’s degree in (Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or) a relevant field or completed commercial apprenticeship
- 2 – 3 years of work experience in finance management, preferably with NGOs or international organisations and with multi-donor programmes;
- Good understanding of administrative and financial management procedures, in particular with regard to project management and allocation of resources;
- Familiarity with EU financial rules and regulations for external actions is an asset;
- Good communication (and negotiation) skills and ability to work as part of a culturally diverse team;
- Excellent IT-skills, in particular an excellent knowledge of Excel
- Fluency in written and spoken English, very good knowledge of German an asset.
