The World Council of Churches (WCC) is an ecumenical fellowship of churches founded in 1948, which brings together 345 Christian denominations from all over the world and promotes Christian unity in faith, witness and service for a just and peaceful world.

The WCC is looking for a Consultant for Health and Healing at 100% to be responsible for providing support so as to enhance the contributions of the WCC to the ecumenical movement. The position reports to the Coordinator of Human Dignity and to the Associate General Secretary for Public Witness and Diakonia.

Fluent in English, and at ease both in an international working environment and with the values and mission of the Council, the Consultant for Health and Healing will:

• Work on Health and Healing project
• Encourage, strengthen and develop the capacity of ecumenical, health coordinating agencies as well as the health activities of regional, national or regional bodies
• Facilitate and contribute to biblical/theological reflection on mission from a health and healing perspective and to enable specific studies on such key issues as faith healing, bio medical ethics, equity and wholeness in health
• Assist regional partners to link with other regions on health issues in order to promote information sharing, people exchanges (especially South to South) and joint initiatives
• Advocate for the churches' concerns in health and wholeness with international bodies such as WHO, UNAIDS, UNICEF and international NGO networks
• Build and nurture relations with UN agencies such as WHO, UNAIDS , UNICEF,
• Contribute to and work together with WCC New York and Geneva based staff on International Affairs and in relevant programmatic areas to develop and implement an effective and integral advocacy policy
• Work in an integrated way with other WCC staff in relevant programmatic areas and transversals in planning, implementation and report writing
• Work with member churches and ecumenical partners on issues of common interest in planning, implementation and report writing
• Maintain clear and open lines of communication and collaborate with staff in the WCC general secretariat, the programmes, communication and the finance services and administration sector
• Be actively engaged in fundraising efforts according to agreed policies and in coordination with IMD and be available for planned visits to funding partners
• Any other tasks as requested by the General Secretary and the Associate General Secretary

Qualifications and special requirements:

Experience :
• At least five to ten years of Health and Healing area in an organization / NGOs.
• Must have worked in the area of global epidemics
• At least 5 years’ experience working with religious leadership and various faith communities, partnerships, networks and international agencies
• Significant experience in planning, monitoring and evaluating and implementing projects/programmes

Education:
• Medical degree with practical experience in different settings, particularly in developing countries

Competencies:
Ability to work in a team. Quality of discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
• Understand and actively support WCC’s vision, mission and values
• Able to provide technical and strategic leadership and direction on the development and implementation of WCC’s Health & Healing project
• Proven understanding of the realities of managing programmes in developing countries, gained through significant experience overseas working in development and/or humanitarian relief
• Understands WCC’s model of working through partners, especially Faith Based Organisations
• Sensitive to diversity, gender and cultural differences
• Ability to communicate well with varied of audiences and have a proven ability in writing skills
• Flexibility: willing to work outside of normal office hours when required and able to travel, sometimes in difficult situations

Language skills :
Ability to correspond in English. Other languages would be advantageous.

Computer skills:
Ability to work with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• High level of computer literacy and internet based communication
