United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Domestic Worker Programme Coordinator

Organization: Anti-Slavery International
Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Closing date: 07 Nov 2014

Anti-Slavery International is currently recruiting a Programme Coordinator to lead the development and growth of its programme on labour rights, specifically addressing the situation of child and migrant domestic workers.

At least 21 million people worldwide are trapped in slavery today. As the world’s oldest international human rights organisation, Anti-Slavery International is at the forefront of the fight to eradicate this abuse, working with partners in every continent.

Anti-Slavery International seeks to implement a multi-level approach to eradicating the causes and consequences of contemporary slavery. Our Programme Coordinators work with local partner organisations overseas to undertake measures including advocacy for policy and practice change, development of education projects for children vulnerable to slavery, community development and investigations to draw political and public attention to ongoing abuses of slavery across the globe.

The domestic work programme runs a number of projects looking at the situation of children and migrant women in domestic work. It is a global programme and over recent years activities have been implemented in Peru, Costa Rica, India, Nepal, Philippines, Togo, Benin, Tanzania, Lebanon and more. The domestic work programme is implemented in partnership with locally based organisations including small grassroot initiatives, non-governmental organisations, and trade unions. The domestic work programme delivers a wide range of interventions, from community empowerment, safe migration awareness, service delivery, advocacy at national and international levels and legal work and is committed to doing so in a participatory manner.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual with previous experience working on labour rights or migration issues, within a human rights or development background. You will have experience of managing and monitoring complex projects, working with local implementing partners from a distance. You will have strong organisational and administrative skills and be able to convey our work confidently and effectively both in writing and verbally.
