Country: Peru, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Closing date: 14 Nov 2014
Our partner is based in an extremely impoverished area, whose residents struggle with daily hardships such as drug crime, unsanitary conditions and delinquency. For decades now they have been using football to engage boys and girls with their community, giving them access to a better quality of life, health care and education.
What began as a small community football team has developed into 4 sports schools and professional futsal team, an expansion that has been made possible from the overwhelming support they have received from the local community over the years. They deliver health workshops to young people, integrate the boys and girls and teach them about how best to deal with the social struggles they face, which helps to direct them towards a more positive future. They have seen significant growth over the last 4-5 years, and have outgrown their internal controls, which is where you come in!
You will be the first AfID volunteer with our partner, and your role will be akin to undertaking a general assessment of their financial controls and procedures, identifying any weaknesses, and recommending and implementing any changes which you deem necessary. You will also assist the Director and the other staff with some training in MSExcel, and make sure they are on top of the organisation's growth. As they have grown, they have had more international grants, and would like your help with the necessary reporting to donors.
Our partner’s work is of such high regard there has been a demand for these expansions and the results that they have produced for society speak for themselves. They represent a chance for impoverished families to see that their children have a better chance for the future, it is a chance that would otherwise not be available. The young people of Peru deserve a chance to be happy, they deserve a childhood and they deserve a future – you have the power to help them achieve and enjoy all of these things by volunteering your accounting skills to a good cause.
Although this is an unpaid voluntary role, our partner is able to provide accommodation at no cost to the volunteer for the duration of the 2 – 3 weeks that they would be staying. It is worth noting that our partner and their beneficiaries only speak Spanish and as such we would require volunteer who speaks fluent Spanish in order to communicate with the finance staff.
If you want to learn more about volunteering abroad and how your accountancy skills could help build capacity with charities then come along to our workshop in London. Next dates – 31st October & 12th December, book now, visit www.afid.org.uk/page/4/Workshops
