International Media Support (IMS) is a non-profit organisation working to support journalists and media in countries affected by armed conflict, human insecurity and political transition. Across four continents we help to strengthen professional journalism and ensure that media can operate in challenging circumstances.
We are seeking an experienced Controller motivated to take on the task of supporting the financial management of our programmes in these complex environments.
We are currently updating our financial management system and we would like you to contribute to an efficient implementation of this update.
Our funding stems from a variety of public donors and as a Controller you will assist us in handling the complexity of different donor requirements; building the capacity of our partners; and to financially manage a large volume of grants and programmes.
Main responsibilities
- Perform internal control and compliance of processes, transactions and documentation;
- Carry out control and compliance checks of financial accounts and external audited reports from IMS’ partners;
- Prepare accounts and control documentation for external audits of programmes and the annual audit of IMS;
- Reconcile and follow up on IMS’ intermediate accounts;
- In cooperation with Finance Assistants for IMS subsidiaries and branch offices, provide regular financial updates to management and staff;
- Contribute to upgrading of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and to improve reporting to IMS management and grant teams.
Qualifications
- Relevant Danish academic degree, e.g. Cand. Merc., Cand. Oecon., HD in accounting or equivalent international qualifications;
- Minimum five years of proven experience and expertise in accounting and controlling, preferably involving aid management of several projects/programmes;
- Proven experience and expertise in using accounting systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics NAV;
- Experienced user of Microsoft Office, in particular of Microsoft Excel;
- Excellent skills in written and spoken Danish and English;
- Working knowledge of other languages spoken in IMS’ programme countries (e.g. Arabic, French) will be an asset.

Duration and location
The Controller will be employed on a full-time contract from as soon as possible until 31 March 2016 with possibility of extension. The Controller will be based at IMS’ headquarters in Copenhagen and may be required to travel to some of our programme countries.
