Internship vacancy in UNHCR Ethics Office, HQ Geneva.

The Ethics Office has been created in 2008, and among its duties, has the following responsibilities: managing the UNHCR Code of Conduct and its annual Refresher training sessions in the Field and at HQs, protection of individuals against Retaliation, Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and administering the UN Financial Disclosure Programme for UNHCR staff.

The Ethics Office seeks the temporary assistance of an intern, to start as soon as possible (early October) for a period of 3 to 6 months on the following activities:

  • Assisting to prepare results of the 2013 and 2014 UNHCR-wide Code of Conduct surveys.
  • Supporting the design of a communication strategy to ensure sustained information-dissemination and awareness campaign, i.e posters, webpage in intranet, thematic PowerPoint presentation, food for thought, etc.
  • Assisting in research, review and analysis of existing policies and documents produced by the Ethics Office and relevant Units and carrying out extensive consultations with relevant colleagues enabling the Ethics Office to develop a long term strategy.
  • Assisting the Ethics Office in analysing the achievements, gaps analysis, challenges in carrying out the Ethics Office mandate, in order to develop a longer term vision and strategy.
  • Assisting in developing a dissemination strategy on the UNHCR’s policies with the aim to better inform the staff in the Field and HQ.
  • Assisting in the drafting of the Ethics PSEA related contribution to Global Appeals, Global Reports, IASC Working Group and Principals meetings, etc.
  • Assisting to organize a workshop for PSEA practitioners in the field/HQ
  • Assisting in the drafting of a report outlining the challenges and achievements related to PSEA since 2010, highlighting how the Secretary General Bulletin was enforced, updated and further expanded.
  • Assisting in collecting information and researching recurrent issues in the Inspection report from the Inspector General’s Office.
  • Performing other duties as required by the Office.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in a relevant field (political science, social science, international development, ethics, law), Masters degree an asset;
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is essential, knowledge of French or other languages will be an asset;
  • Planning and presentation skills, strong ability to work with various (relevant) computer software in designing and forming reports;
  • Flexibility and adaptability; excellent communication skills; team working; a strong sense of ethics and the highest standards of professional and personal integrity
