About us

At Christian Aid we have a vision of a better world. More than half the world lives in poverty. We aim to put a stop to that. So we campaign against the inequalities that keep people poor and we work with local organisations to give people strength to find their own solutions to the problems they face, irrespective of their religion. If you’re as determined as we are to end poverty and injustice across the world, work with us to make change happen.

About the role

Conflict and natural disasters devastate lives. All too often it’s the lives of the world’s poorest people. In this role you’ll help us and our partners in the Middle East to deliver and ultimately save lives and reduce human suffering.

When disaster strikes we’re quick to respond working with our partners to deliver vital emergency relief. You’ll be part of a dynamic Middle East team providing support to our humanitarian programmes, monitoring and reporting on our porgrammes and carrying out general technical support functions.

During the early stages of an emergency the post holder will work closely with the humanitarian and Middle East team to put in place the necessary systems (both financial and administrative) to support the emergency programmes, ensuring they run smoothly. As such this role will be vital in supporting existing responses in Gaza, Syria and Iraq, as well as others as they arise. You'll achieve this through efficient adminstrative and financial support, facilitating communication both inside and outside of the organisation and by acting as a focal point within Christian Aid's Middle East Team.

About you

You will need a good understanding of financial and administrative systems and be able to deal with complicated budgets and reporting systems. You are likely to have worked in the NGO sector, or with an international organisation and have an understanding of HAP (Humanitarian Accountability Partnership) and security principles as well as an awareness of the complexity of working in various parts of the Middle East. You'll need a good head for figures, be a team player and able to communicate to a range of different audiences both inside and outside of Christian Aid.

Whatever your background you’ll need the skills to interact with a wide cross section of people and organisations both in the UK and the Middle East and have a flexible approach to a varying workload.

Further information

This role requires applicants to have the right to work in the country that this position is based. As this post is UK based, non-EC nationals will require current and valid permission to work in the UK. This role is working on a fixed term contract for one year.

We value the contribution each person makes to the success of our organisation. That is why you can expect a wide range of rewards and benefits, including a generous holiday allowance, a season ticket loan, and flexibility that will ensure you enjoy a good work/life balance.

We value diversity and aspire to reflect this in its workforce. We welcome applications from people from all sections of the community, irrespective of race, colour, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief.
