SNV is a not-for-profit international development organization with long-term, local presence in over 30 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our team of advisors work with local partners to equip communities and businesses with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services. SNV works across three sectors: Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. Several international donors fund our programmes. The Global Business Development team coordinates and supports proposal development across the organization, including proposal budget development, costing and price setting.

THE ROLE

As Budget Analyst you will be part of the Global Business Development team, supporting sector and country teams in achieving SNV's goals of fund diversification and growth, quality programming and implementation. You will lead and support the proposal budgeting process for both tender and grant applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review donor requirements (fee/cost based, eligible/ineligible costs, direct/indirect) and guide proposal teams on how to organize and present budget information.
• Lead the development of proposal budgets working closely with proposal team members and relevant country staff, assisting with (unit) costing and pricing estimates.
• Review draft proposal budgets and ensure they effectively meet donor requirements as well as SNV’s internal costing and pricing guidelines, including overhead recovery.
• Develop budgeting tools and briefs, adapting templates and training material, including FAQs, tips and guidelines for key donors and training of SNV staff in budget preparation.
• During the initial contracting process, assist appointed Project Managers and Contract Administrators to interpret and organize approved budgets for new projects.
• Assist in developing new budgeting tools and approaches to respond to innovative donor financing mechanisms such as results based financing.

REQUIREMENTS

• Academic degree in accounting, business finance or similar;
• At least 3 years experience in preparing effective budgets and budget analysis;
• Experience in business development and proposal budgeting (tenders and grants) in the international development field is preferred (priority donors include the EC, DFID).
• Proactive, independent work approach and a high attention to detail and accuracy;
• Ability to work to deadlines supporting multiple proposals and shifting demands;
• An advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English;
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
