****ODI**** aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.
ODI is seeking a Programme Assistant to provide administrative and programme support to Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action (ALNAP), housed at ODI.
ALNAP is an international inter-agency network dedicated to improving humanitarian performance through increased learning and accountability.
You will help with the organisation of two large events (the ALNAP Annual Meeting and the Global Forum on improving the effectiveness in humanitarian action) under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager and provide programme assistance with the aim of supporting the humanitarian sector to improve humanitarian performance. You will have strong organisational skills and be self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines. You will be a confident verbal communicator and good written communication skills.
You will have:
- Education to degree level in a relevant discipline
- Knowledge of key international institutions in the sector and beyond
- Experience in organising large events, in particular managing invitation lists, arranging logistics (flights, hotels, visa applications) for international participants and ensuring that all necessary information about an event is communicated in a timely and clear manner.
- Experience in prioritising urgent tasks and dealing with multiple requests
- Experience of providing administrative support
- Advanced IT skills to include Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, the ability to deal with people from a variety of backgrounds
- Foreign language skills (desirable)
- Experience and interest in development issues (desirable)
